UT69 Movie Review:-
“UT69” is a jail drama that follows Raj Kundra, the husband of actress Shilpa Shetty, who is accused of being involved in a pornography-related case. The film focuses on the harsh conditions faced by inmates in Indian jails, but lacks a clear plot and fails to sustain interest. The film uses black comedy to convey Kundra’s story, but it only sporadically engages the audience and fails to capture the compelling elements of a jail drama.
The film provides a first-hand account of the deplorable conditions faced by inmates in Indian jails, with scenes such as the Ganapati festival and games for ten nights being skillfully filmed. Director Shahnawaz Ali employs humor as a narrative tool to portray Kundra’s story, but it ultimately works against the film’s intended message.
Despite the grim setting of a jail, the film lacks any sequences that can be described as ‘tense’ or ‘brutal,’ which are often associated with prison environments. Kundra’s performance is commendable, but his limitations as an actor are evident. The supporting cast, including Kumar Saurabh as Ashraf, Ganesh Deokar as Amar, and Mahesh Ghag as Jacob, deliver hearty laughs and provide commendable performances.
The film diverges significantly from other gripping jail dramas based on real-life events, which typically exude a tense and gritty ambiance. “UT69” takes a different path, using humor to a degree that dilutes the overall impact. In retrospect, one can’t help but wish that the filmmakers had embraced more gritty and brutal elements, which could have elevated the film to a higher level of authenticity and resonance.
