Leave The World Behind Movie Review:-
Leave The World Behind is a thriller that follows the Sanfords, an American family of four, as they take a weekend getaway to a nearby town. Amanda finds a steal deal online for a palatial villa on the outskirts of their town, hoping to relax and reconnect with each other. However, mysterious and unexplained things start happening around them, such as a cargo ship docking onto a public beach, a blackout, and a strange father-daughter duo landing at the villa, claiming it to be their own. As they reluctantly let them stay for the night, they are left with a deeper and sinister nightmare that seems to be a result of a massive cyber attack.
Director Sam Esmail feeds on our curiosity from the beginning until the end, slowly revealing the weird occurrences one by one. However, at 2 hours and 21 minutes, Esmail takes too long to give us the answers and stretches the unexplained chaos for a very long time. The slow pace of the screenplay robs this thriller of the thrill that was expected out of it.
Julia Roberts plays a paranoid mother who gropes in the dark for answers about her and her family. However, the rest of the cast perform well, but their characters are written as cliches. Archie Sandford (Charlie Evans) is a horny young boy with raging hormones, while Farrah Mackenzie plays the Friends-obsessed Rose. GH Scott (Mahershala Ali) and his daughter Ruth are the scary black family who invade a privileged white family’s staycation.
Leave The World Behind has sporadic action, which is far too less to make it an edge-of-the-seat-entertainer that could have been. It presents a grim and apocalyptic scenario that is absolutely possible in the world we live in.
