Starfish Movie Review:-

The movie Starfish Pickle, adapted from Bina Nayak’s novel, follows the story of troubled Tara Salgaonkar (Khushalii Kumar) as she leads a diving mission to find the remains of a naval crew after a ship explosion. Her life is marked by panic attacks and a wild lifestyle due to a dark secret from her past, which led her mother Sukanya to take her own life. Tara tries to unravel her mother’s meaning and why she took such a drastic step. She forms relationships with naval captain Aman Sharma (Tusharr Khanna) and musician Neel (Ehan Bhat), and wonders if she will find closure.

The film’s visual appeal is striking, with cinematographer Jim Edgar and director Akhilesh Jaiswal capturing the oceanic life and underwater scenes beautifully. However, the screenplay by Akhilesh and Aditya Bhatnagar seems fragmented and lacks depth in the love stories that are crucial to Tara’s tale of self-discovery. The narrative often seems like a string of events with the protagonist at the center, with an encounter with spiritual and music guru Arlo (Milind Soman).

Khushalii Kumar delivers her role as a diver and wild child well, especially in the second half when her emotional turmoil escalates. Tusharr Khanna and Ehan Bhat passable, but Milind Soman is good in his brief role. The music is hummable, with folk songs Madhaniya redux and club numbers Kudiye Ni Teri. While the film has a good premise and a strong character arc, a tighter and more coherent screenplay would have allowed the narrative to reach its true potential and depth.
